Very nice!! I'm planning to make a 2D animation, but I'd like to use UE to make some backgrounds and specific places, do you think it would be possible? I'm new to this world.

Quick question - how come the blueprint works fine with keyboard but not with controller? When i hold forward on anolog they just run in tight circles and pressing left or right makes them spin on the spot super fast.

So far these tutorials have been great. The best I've seen for retro horror in UE5. Although i do have a few requests. Inventory System Quick Turn, with an explanation of how to hold down and the left face button to do it. And lastly, shooting with old school auto-aim. I'm looking forward to what's next regardless.

Hey, I just came across your videos and they're super informative. I'm completely new to game dev work (with the exception of some work I've done in Blender in my filmmaking work)-- but I just was wondering if there are any communities you can recommend for beginner game devs looking to meet and network with other people who also are making games. I never thought I'd try to make a video game, but recently got the itch as an extension of my filmmaking. Thanks in advance, love your channel = )

I really miss your retro series, I can not get enough of these takes on the sweet nostalgia older games gave players. Take me as an example, I am a 2000s early bird, still old games touch me way more than the latest graphic wonders. I really missed out on the good stuff

Thanks for providing more education on cinematic cameras. Over the shoulder seems to be the norm and I think having developers learn and embrace the fixed cinematic style will really help tell the story via gameplay.

the fixed camera angles was so important to me that what I loved about old videogames and I wish new videogames would do this today especially horror games horror games need to bring this element back in my point of view is just a shame to play resident evil game now lie resident evil 5 and have it an action game it's just not the same like the olden days we you boot up a game in your PlayStation one and be totally scared by a game like silent Hill or resident evil the point I'm saying is modern games … Don't do it like old games used to this is all just my point of view but gosh I miss fixed camera angles Love the video by the way mean not all games have to have fixed camera angles and ideas for Laurie games need to be that

I am a newbie in game dev but im glad i didn't made these mistakes. whenever i try new thing i search online how it affects performance. like when i needed colliders i searched and found out that mesh colliders are expensive and boxcollider are better. i think i have a mental disease where everything have to be perfect 😂. right now im working on a project and im using object pool and everything to improve performance but if i don't do it it will not have huge impact on performance but still i want it to be perfect. 😅 and i don't have a beast pc. 😅

Great video! Some thoughts about some of the questions discussed: 1. As it was said, when trying to come up with solutions for designs problems sometimes we end up overcomplicating and create solutions for solutions. A different approach is doing the opposite - start removing stuff from the game to figure out what really the core of the problem is. 2. For some aspects of the role, you don't need to know how to code I can understand that, but even so, since Technical Designer is such a communication-based role, knowing how to code also improves your communication with the programming team, as in, you understand what they did and why they did it and how that limits the design of the game or how it opens up room for different design approaches . Also you can always offer a different perspective in terms of programming(even if you are not as much of an expert as they are). 3. High-Schools Maths are most of the times enough and don't forget to light a candle for Quaternions 🙏. 4. About the design logic question while a bit broad, I think it heavily depends on the game we are trying to create. A good rule of thumb is following a player-centric approach, in which, all the Rules and Interactions are created in service of the player and the fantasy of the game. Too often, have I seen aspiring game designers wanting stuff in a game because it sounds cool and flashy and forget what the game was really about. (This includes myself in the past 😅 )

I've been looking to learn more about how technical design diverges from game design (my domain) so vids on this subject are particularly helpful. And the way the chat was segmented into different topics made it all the more easier to jump into the the relevant topics. I'm curious about how transferrable are the skills from game design to tech design. As long as one is proficient in scripting, would a game designer easily qualify for tech designer openings?

Yup we certainly are! It's still quite niche from what I understand. Absolutely, entertainment industries aren't the most stable of places and the game industry is going through many issues at the moment so its always a choice between passion and money/comfort which can be very difficult. I hope for a better future for us all in game dev and beyond 🙏
